Finding Jobs in London Ontario

finding jobs

So here you are searching for a new source of income, specifically jobs in London Ontario, where you live. You’ve already picked up the Londoner and very quickly browsed through it’s 174 employment listing and found nothing of interest. Your next stop is the almighty Google search. Jobs in London Ontario, is your perfect search term and before you know it, you realize the scope of just how many listings there are online vs. traditional print media. Beware: you don’t want to drown in this endless sea of listings like many other unemployed job seekers.

Your first online stop may be the London Ontario Jobs Link Bank, and it’s endless links and listings through Monster.ca, Canada Job Postings, jobs in London Ontario classifieds online etc. Unless you know the exact company that you want to work for or the exact position you are in search of you may be out of luck or hopelessly unemployed for longer than you would like to be.

Now of course you know that the greatest source of information with regards to actually finding jobs in London Ontario is on the internet. However, you may want more than the average recruitment company or job listing service that sends you on that proverbial “needle in a haystack” journey. You want a job and you want it now, not later. You also want a job that will pay you more than your last job. A quick search will land you results like Headhunters Directory, however, after a short peruse through their site I found what seemed to be another ocean in comparison to the “sea” I mentioned above. I also came across a company called Capstone Careers who apparently is a “independent career advancement and marketing company.” Their site further explains that they “prepare” their clients “to successfully access the job market at a level that suits their skills, their experience, and their aspirations.” I found this very intriguing and perhaps I will write more of my findings on them in a future post.

Here are 5 steps that I found made a huge difference in finding jobs in London Ontario:

  1. The Bull’s-eye is best: Target the area you love to work in and have also been the most successful in the past. Generally this is where you will find the most fulfillment. When we are happy we work better which in turn has the greatest potential for income increases.
  2. Skills Check: Do you have the training and education necessary to excel in your chosen field? Perhaps a little refresher can give you that added line on your resume that will put you “head and shoulders” above the competition.
  3. Radical Resume: Your resume must stand out from the rest with a style of resume that signifies you are worth looking at more than once. Of course you will include the pertinent key points, skills and experience that the HR person across the table from you has seen on the other resumes. However the presentation will make a huge difference. Capstone Careers (not your regular recruitment company) as I pointed out above, apparently develop for their clients the type of resume that gets the interviews and positions that their clients truly want.
  4. Net Referrals Work: Networking and personal referrals can give you an even greater advantage above the other candidates. Someone you know can provide a character reference that a resume can’t. A friend or associate can also inform you of a position or opening in their company that may be of great interest to you, saving you a lot of time and money.
  5. Support from the past: Very often the company that you were last employed by or even one prior to that may be able to assist you in finding jobs in London Ontario. Yes, there are companies that will not only give you a good reference, but also provide you with some connections to new employment opportunities. I have found that the very same Capstone Careers is sometimes enlisted by companies to train employees that have been let go from one company for new positions in another company.

All in all, your search for employment doesn’t have to be a difficult one and with the right support and guidance can lead you to the most successful change in your life.
